Position Overview
A federal contractor is looking for an experienced Linux systems administrator to support a mission critical federal program. This role covers design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, with heavy emphasis on scripting, automation, and networking.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot RHEL server environments (versions 8 and 9)
- Build and maintain automation scripts in BASH, Perl, JavaScript, or Python
- Handle day to day administration and operations from the command line
- Automate tasks with Ansible and RHEL Satellite
- Manage package deployment across geographically dispersed environments
- Configure and manage NFTables, Firewalld, IPTables, BIND DNS, TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, and Postfix/SMTP relay
- Administer Linux server clustering, NFSv3/NFSv4, PXE boot, and SELinux
- Support container runtime environments, AWS, and GitLab
- Maintain documentation for system designs, configurations, and service records
- Partner with cross functional IT teams on infrastructure projects
- Mentor junior team members
- Troubleshoot LAN/WAN connectivity and performance issues
- Ensure compliance with security hardening standards (CIS, NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5, DISA STIGs)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years administering Linux/UNIX systems, including interoperability with Windows
- Current Red Hat certification (RHCSA, RHCE, or RHCA)
- Strong scripting skills in BASH, Perl, JavaScript, or Python
- Experience with Ansible, RHEL Satellite, and similar automation tools
- Familiarity with container runtimes, AWS, and GitLab
- Strong problem solving, communication, and documentation skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Willing to participate in a 24/7/365 on call rotation
